 Hey Everybody!
What a year it has been! I am wrapping up my season here in Estonia and have about 2 months left before I come home. This winter has been the coldest and whitest Estonia has seen for 20 years. Today it is 14 degrees Fahrenheit, which is a little colder than I would have hoped for in the middle of March.
The most exciting news of the year is that my wife and I are expecting a little girl in June! This will be our first child, and we are so excited to be parents. Everything has gone smoothly so far... we're just counting down the days till she gets here:)
Basketball has gone well... I am averaging around 11 pts. and 3.5 assists in the leagues I'm playing in, but most importantly we are in great positions going into the playoffs. There have been ups and downs, and I have grown a lot as a player and a person. I have learned how important it is to enjoy the game and not be defined by my performance on the basketball court. It is so easy to define success or worth by how many points you score or if your team wins the game. But that's not what it is all about! Did I try my best? Was I unselfish? Did I complain to the ref or my coach? How did I react when I was fouled? Did I cheer for my teammates when they did something good, or yell at them when they made a mistake? How did I respond to a loss? These are some of the things I think about after my games. Remember, basketball is a great way to shape your character, but it does not define you. Parents, please remind your kids how much more important their character is than their performance on the court.
I could write much more, but will save it for my next post!
I am also working on my own blog which talks about how my spiritual life relates to how I play and view basketball. Check it out if you want. http://www.toddaber.com/
