 Merry Christmas from the Abernethy’s in Latvia!! We are living in Ventspils, Latvia, a small port city of 42,000 people on the Western part of the country. I am playing for BK Ventspils, one of the top teams in Latvia. Three years ago when I played in Latvia, we lost to Ventspils here at their home gym in overtime of Game 7 of the Finals! I didn’t know it at the time, but I fractured my arm in the 1st quarter and made a 3 pointer at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime. Even though we lost, I have great memories of playing here and was excited to come back to Latvia and play for this team.
We are in 3 leagues. The Latvian League (All Latvian Teams), Baltic League (top teams throughout Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia), and Eurochallenge League (32 teams throughout Europe). This means we are very busy!! We advanced to the 2nd round of the Eurochallenge League and go on to play teams in France, Germany, and Holland.
The best part of being here is spending time with my family and watching my two girls grow up! They came 2 weeks after I got settled and are finally adjusted to Latvia.
